»one of our challenges in this regional project is how to renew older neighborhoods in our larger cities and in the region's many small towns. This could involve incentives to attract families to buy and fix up vacant homes, some of them lender-owned homes involved in foreclosure. thanks for the comments..keep them coming
»We offer biodegradable bags and pet stations to all of our managed communities, but still people dont pick up after their dogs. I watch people all the time that just decide to leave pet waste on the ground. If they only knew that the CDC categorizes pet waste to be as dangerous as toxic chemicals and oils. So if someone was pouring motor oil on the ground, would we be more likely to take notice? I really hope property managers educate their tenants about the environmental and health dangers associated with unscooped pet waste! I dont want my kids or pets to get E. Coli, Salmonella, or Worms!
»Instead of building new neighborhoods, utilize and renew the older neighborhoods. The renewal of old neighborhoods needs to be affordable as to not displace the families and people who live there already.

Neighborhoods,apartment complexes could charge a small fee to purchase the bags and have stands throughout the neighborhoods/complexes to make it easier for people to pick up after their pets. Several of the parks in Greensboro offer the bag service.
»As a community, we benefit by a higher percentage of college graduates, a stronger workforce, and the 47,000 active student citizens who live and work here. To make this resource even more sustainable, we should strive to keep higher education affordable, especially in the public schools such as NCA&TSU and UNCG. One way to do that is to keep down the extra cost which are not related to educaiton, and make it possible for students to finish their degrees in at the lowest cost, within four years, and without debt.
»I like the idea of adult tricycles. Since I have had to start using a walking aid, your idea has gotten me to thinking maybe this would be an option for my mobility challenge. Thanks for the idea, I will be exploring the adult tricycle option.
»I agree with this, and spoke in support of this idea at the PART Board Meeting in October. I heard the issue was that Davidson County has no monies to dedicate to this type of project.
»Things will stay the same if people just shrug and say to with it. It's hard to convince people set in their ways so they should complain if nothing changes when all along they could have done something, anything about it.
»I guess that most people in Randolph County have cars in order to get to this "excellent Healthcare." But I had to move to Guilford County to get the "Excellent Healthcare" that I needed because I'm a senior citizen and no longer drive and Randolph County does not have any form of cheap public transporation.As always the County refused to help provide funding in this area. This is one reason that PART curtailed its service to the area. Guilford County cares about its senior citizens and recognizes the contributions that these seniors made and tries to provide them with this "Excellent Healthcare" and helps provide transporation to and from their "Excellent Healthcare" providers. And as always Randolph lags behind in this area because they are concerened with lining the county coffers and the pockets of the well to do county fathers and others in the county that have divested intrestes in the county.
»If they are in that bad condition....have them condemed and the property owner will have to repair them or pay for having them tore down and the lot cleared and if your county or city does not have laws to support this then they need to enact them. This would get the property owner's attention. If the property owner still refuses to clean the property then the city or county could clear it and file a claim for the expense incurred and if the owner does not pay the party that cleared the property could file a lein on the property and go to court to reclaim the property or sell it at public auctio to the highest bidder to pay the expenses.

Sustainable Design and Development Workshop

The City of Asheboro is hosting a workshop to explore issues and develop strategies for the economic revitalization of communities throughout our region. In conjunction with the Sustainable Communities Project, this initial Design & Development Workshop will serve as a model for helping citizens and community leaders in the Piedmont Triad to identify reinvestment priorities within existing town centers.

Opportunities will be provided for other communities in the region to host a similar design and development workshop. To get a glimpse join us on May 22 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Sunset Theater in Asheboro for a summary of the Workshop. This opportunity is provided especially for representatives from other communities in the region to learn about the process and to consider duplicating in their own downtown.
